This was my homework for The University of Tennessee's (Knoxville) Computer Science course CS400 Senior Design. The posts are summaries from the assigned readings in the textbook (Design of Design by Fred Brooks) and our group's final project and source code. Our final project was an arduino-based automated garden and a web-interface for plant growing profile control and sensor feedback.

Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing is similar to outsourcing but it doesn't matter where the people/labor come from. They could be local or out of the country, just as long as they can get on the internet. Open source software and many companies like eBay and Wikipedia showed that random people on the internet contributing to a project can rival those of companies in it for the profits. Not to say they don't make money through things like advertising, but most of the labor is free from people that want to contribute. This has made photographers like Harmel lose a lot of money. The website iStockphoto provides photographs to companies who used to pay for photographs, for as low as $1 USD each. These photos don't necessarily have to be taken by photographers.
